There
is beautiful countryside, a long characterful coastline and the
wilds of Dartmoor
to explore. The beaches on the north coast (e.g. Saunton, Croyde,
Woolacoombe) are generally more open and spacious, windy and wilder
- ideal for surfing. Those on the south coast (e.g. Branscombe,
Exmouth,) are more sheltered. Mid Devon offers a good, central base
from which to see all of these.
Crediton
is on the Tarka line, a single track railway with a regular service
that connects Exeter to the North coast and the many inns and villages
in between. Crediton also has a leisure
centre with swimming pool, gym, squash courts, fitness studio.
It is a town that remains - as yet - unaffected by the influence
of the big supermarket. It holds a monthly farmers' market that
brings in a great variety of local produce. There are small shops
and good butchers, a bookshop, a deli, antiques and bric-a-brac
and much more.
Castle
Drogo and the National Trust property, Killerton
House and gardens are within a short drive. The Two
Moors Way, a 106 mile mapped walk between Lynton and Tavistock,
passes within a reasonable distance. Exeter has a good shopping
centre as well as a museum,
theatre,
cinema
and restaurants.
